BONDED BY BEATS
To portray the article’s message about how shared music taste can build communities, I place the viewer at an energetic dinner table scene where, instead of feasting on shared plates, the guests dance over vinyls. The immersive illustration places the viewer at the table by using 1-point perspective. Diagonal gestures and gazes create a dynamic visual flow between the characters and into the composition. A limited, harmonious color palette creates a sense of collective mood and cohesion, where saturation is used to create an illusory color range, tricking the eye into seeing non-existent blues and greens. In the background, expressive brushstrokes radiate out from the figures like vibrations, reinforcing their shared energy and visual importance.

I looked to golden age illustrators Norman Rockwell and J.C. Leyendecker for inspiration. I noticed that both delivered narrative through the gazes of their characters, framed their subjects with much lighter values, and used limited palettes. These parameters became the framework for my illustration.
